Hospice Chaplain

Why did you want to work for VNA Hospice?
I was introduced to hospice ministry during my residency working in a Chicago hospital ICU. Ministering to persons as they approached end-of-life provided an opportunity to be with patients and families at a sacred time. The VNA Hospice service area encompasses my neighborhood and their home-based service provides the context for developing intimate relationships with patients and families.

When did you join VNA Hospice?
9/10/2007

What are your credentials/education?
Board certified chaplain (National Association of Catholic Chaplains); MA Pastoral Studies – Catholic Theological Union, Chicago; PhD Finance – University of Illinois; MBA University of Chicago; MS Stevens Institute of Technology; BS Kings College.

What is your philosophy of care, what do you strive to bring to each patient you interact with?
The role of a chaplain is to walk with people and by accompanying them on their journey to share their burden. This applies to the patient, family and friends as appropriate. I bring presence, directed listening and appropriate sacred reading and prayer as desired by those encountered. I help people to walk their spiritual journey. I also assist with services as desired and preside at memorials when requested. I also organize and conduct grief processing groups and provide individual grief counseling as appropriate.
