VNA Health Care is deeply saddened to share that former President/CEO Janet S. Craft passed away on May 1, 2026.
Janet led the organization from 1983–1999 and leaves behind a lasting legacy of compassion, service, and dedication to the community. A nurse by profession and by heart, Janet brought a deep sense of caring to every aspect of her leadership and will long be remembered for her many contributions to VNA’s growth and mission.
During her tenure, Janet directed the expansion of VNA’s Medicare-certified Home Health program, resulting in more than 80,000 visits annually by the late 1990s. Under her leadership, the organization launched important new programs, including Medicare-certified Hospice and the Healthy Families home visiting program, helping countless individuals and families receive care, comfort, and support when they needed it most.
Janet also modernized the organization and helped prepare VNA for its next chapter of growth and excellence. She was deeply committed to quality care and continuous improvement, guiding VNA to achieve Community Health Accreditation Program designation in 1988. An employee award for quality was established in Janet’s name in 2024.
Those who knew Janet remember not only her strong leadership, but also her warmth, kindness, humility, and unwavering belief in helping others. She had a plaque in her home that read, “Why are we here if not to help each other?” Janet truly lived her life according to those words, touching the lives of patients, families, colleagues, and friends throughout her career and beyond. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on June 13, 2026, at St. Charles Episcopal Church.
