Pharmacy Services at VNA Health Care
At VNA, we want to help you get the medicines you need conveniently and at the best possible price. We have VNA pharmacies, located inside our clinics, in Aurora, Elgin, and Joliet, and we partner with certain local Walgreens, CVS, and Wal-Mart pharmacies. Our pharmacies accept Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance, and we can offer discounted medication pricing to eligible patients through the 340B program.
What Is the 340B Program?
The 340B drug pricing program is a federal program that allows VNA to provide medications at lower costs to eligible patients who are underinsured or uninsured. Through this program, we can offer many common medications at significant discounts.

Where to Get Your Prescriptions
Both VNA and non-VNA patients can use our in-clinic pharmacies to fill their prescriptions. When you come to VNA for a checkup or sick visit, our on-site labs and pharmacies make it easy and efficient to get your tests done and prescriptions filled before you leave. VNA pharmacists can help with medication questions and easily coordinate with your VNA provider.
VNA also works with local pharmacies, including Walgreens, CVS, Wal-Mart, and several specialty and mail-order pharmacies, to extend certain benefits and discounts to patients who need to visit a non-VNA pharmacy.
VNA has pharmacies in Aurora, Elgin, and Joliet. You can use the drive-thru to pick up your medicine without leaving your car. If you want to use the drive-thru services, call the pharmacy where you want to pick up your prescription to let them know. Your medicine will be ready at the pharmacy you choose.
We want to make sure you have all the information you need to take advantage of our discounts and services. Below are some common questions about our pharmacy and how we can help you save on your medications.
VNA Pharmacies can hold your prescription for up to 10 days. This gives you time to pick up your medication at your convenience, so you don’t have to worry about rushing in.
If you need to transfer your prescription from one pharmacy to another, you will need to contact the pharmacy where you want your prescription filled. The staff at this pharmacy will contact your current pharmacy and transfer the prescription.
VNA pharmacy staff can help you transfer your prescription to any VNA pharmacy of your choice. This applies to transfers coming from any kind of pharmacy, whether it’s a VNA pharmacy, Walgreens pharmacy or even pharmacies outside of the VNA network.
If your prescription is with a VNA pharmacy and you want to transfer it to a non-VNA pharmacy, you will need to contact their staff and they will handle the transfer.
Some controlled substance prescriptions can be transferred, but there are important rules to know. Schedule III, IV, and V medications can only be transferred one time, no matter how many refills you have left. After one transfer, you’ll need a new prescription from your doctor to switch pharmacies again. This includes medications like Tylenol 3 (acetaminophen / codeine), Ambien and testosterone.
On the other hand, Schedule II medications cannot be transferred at all. These medications also cannot be refilled, so your doctor will need to provide a new prescription each time you need more. Examples of Schedule II medications include Adderall, Concerta, and Percocet.
If you have questions about transferring your prescription to a VNA pharmacy or from a VNA pharmacy to a different location, we can help. Call us to speak to our staff about your needs.
Pricing and convenience are two of the most important factors when choosing a pharmacy. As a customer, you want a pharmacy that has affordable prices, is open at convenient hours and is located near you. For patients in the western Chicago suburbs, VNA in-clinic pharmacies and our partnering Walgreens, CVS, and Wal-Mart pharmacies are a good option. An additional benefit of VNA pharmacies is having your doctor and your pharmacist at the same location.
