When you are sick or have a minor injury, VNA Health Care can help. Instead of waiting late at night in an urgent care center or emergency room, you can walk into one of our centers to receive faster service at an affordable price. You can also schedule a same-day appointment for you or your child using our convenient patient portal (whether you are a new or returning patient) or call to speak with a VNA representative at (630) 892-4355.
What is Sick Care?
A sick clinic is a place where you can go when you’re feeling sick or have a minor injury. It’s different from a regular doctor’s office because you don’t need an appointment, and you can see a doctor or nurse practitioner right away. Some patients prefer to schedule a same-day appointment to receive care instead of walking in, which is also an option.
When Should I Go to The Sick Clinic at VNA?
You should go to a sick clinic when you have a minor injury or illness. These are things that require medical attention but are not severe or life-threatening. Some of the most common sick visits at VNA are for:
- Flu
- Fever under 104°F
- Colds and coughs
- Sprains and strains
- Headaches and migraines
- Ear infections
- Upper respiratory conditions (sinus infections, bronchitis)
- Rash or skin infection that doesn’t respond to home remedies
- Itchy, swollen or red eyes that don’t get better on their own
- Other common illnesses
You can also walk into the clinic for on-site lab services. We do blood work, health screenings, pregnancy tests, pap smear tests, and much more.
If you are experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency or health condition, please visit your nearest ER or call 911. In some cases, patients come to VNA to receive sick care without knowing the full extent of their situation. If their cases require emergency care, we direct them to the ER.
Walk-in Sick Clinic Hours
Same Day Care is available for all locations where sick care is offered. Check out the hours of operations at each location before you head out. We recommend walking in or contacting the clinic as early as possible to secure Same Day Care.
Scheduling can be much more convenient compared to walking in, but try to schedule your appointment as early as you can if you have limited availability. Appointments are available during the early morning, evening and on weekends.
We are located in several areas outside of Chicago, including Aurora, Bensenville, Bolingbrook, Carol Stream, Elgin, Joliet, Romeoville, Villa Park, and Wheaton. Whether you have health insurance, are uninsured, or are underinsured, you will receive the same level of quality care at VNA.

Sick Care vs Other Services
The terms sick care, health care, immediate care, and urgent care can be confusing because they all deal with situations where you need medical help. They might sound the same, but each one is a little different. It’s important to know what each type of care is for so you can choose the best place to go when you need help.
Sick Care vs. Health Care
Sick care is for when you’re feeling sick or have a minor injury, like a cold, cough, or a small cut. It’s focused on treating illnesses or injuries that need quick attention. Health care, on the other hand, is more general and includes regular checkups, vaccinations, and preventive care to keep you healthy.
Acute health issues like minor scrapes, sprains, rashes, animal bites, sinus/ear infections, allergies and sniffles are considered sick care. Because VNA is a comprehensive primary care provider, we can continue to provide continuity of care when we see you for both your checkups and your sick care. We can also help with complications caused by chronic diseases like diabetes, asthma or hypertension.
Sick Care vs Immediate Care
Sick care and immediate care are very similar. The difference often lies in how different clinics, centers and hospitals use these terms. At VNA, walk-in sick care is available at all VNA locations. Immediate care services are only available at our Weston Avenue clinic. Immediate care includes all the same services as sick care, plus suturing, bone and chest x-rays, soft casting, foreign body removal, minor corneal abrasions (the surface of the eye), and minor burns. Immediate care is sometimes referred to as urgent care.
Sick Care vs Emergency Care
Emergency care, as the name suggests, is for situations where every second counts. A delay in care could mean the difference between life and death (or permanent disability). This is when you’re supposed to visit the emergency room or call 911. Examples include:
- When a person stops breathing
- When someone is choking
- An injury to the neck, spine, or head
- Severe chest pain or pressure
- Severe burns
- Electric shock or lightning strike
- Broken bones (the bone is protruding from the skin)
- Severe bleeding
- Inhalation or ingestion of poisonous substances
- Overdoses
Sick care or immediate care services are not meant for these life-threatening medical situations.
